14 Sep 11: "A Clockwork Orange" by Stanley Kubrick

on Sat, 09/10/2011 - 15:03

This wednesday we'll be screening Stanley Kurbrick's controversial 1971 "A Clockwork Orange". Kubrick's quickest feature production, is an adaptation of Anthony Burgess's novel of the same name, starring Malcolm McDowell as Alex, the charismatic delinquent psychopath. A dark, social satire dealing with violence in human society, set in a dystopian futuristic Great Britain that is both authoritarian and chaotic. After it's controversial release, Kubrick voluntarily withdrew his film from Great Britain, for it was accused of inspiring copycat crimes which in turn resulted in threats against Kubrick's family. The film was also X-rated in the US. A Clockwork Orange was re-released in 2000 and ultimately attained cult-film status.
