20 JUL 11: 51717 (live) + "Streets of Fire" by Walter Hill

on Sat, 07/16/2011 - 04:20

Dear Rabbit fans,

we are back for our monthly summer screening event MOVIES+JAMS, with the 1984 cult rock flick STREETS OF FIRE directed by Walter Hill (notably known for "The Warriors") and a live performance by the solo act of Lili Schulder, aka 51717.

8 pm:

51717  is Lili S, originally from the Washington, DC area.  Already a "veteran" of the DC music scene by the time she entered college (her teenage pop band released a CD on Teenbeat Records) she began a solo route, heavily influenced by the sounds of the Balinese gamelan and Japanese koto ensembles she was participating with at university.  After school she fled to the West Coast for 2 years, self-released a CD-R ("557") listened to lots of dub and techno, then moved to Tokyo for a few months to take the last trains into Shibuya and go dancing til sunrise, play some shows, and release another CD-R ("新1717東京1717").  Now based in New York City, Lili continues to create music as 51717 ("Sch" was released on the GEL cassette label) and collaborate with other locals artists, most recently with Matthew Morandi and Daren Ho in Paradise Band.  She is now working on a new project with Morandi and Michael Solomon called Stagg .

"In the process of rubbing dirt over the mirror ball, Lili Schulder aka 51717 sounds like she's spent a lot of her time hidden away deep inside a cave, her only company a disheveled and disturbed Timbaland...Consequently she's concocted a beautiful kind of future forest-funk designed to hypnotize and lead you through the spaces between the leaves with blissful abandon." 8:30 pm:

STREETS OF FIRE directed by Walter Hill in 1984, stars young Willem Dafoe and 18 years old Diane Lane in a stylized "The Warriors"- like tale of biker gangs, rock stars, neon lights, dreamy leather clothes, and explosive gun actions...  An under rated 80s retro film that has now reached cult film status, costumes were designed in collaboration with Giorgio Armani and music score holds the likes of Jim Steinman, Ry Cooder and more.

Wednesday July 20th, 2011.

Door is $10 which includes open bar (beer + TBA refreshing drinks)

Starts at 7:30 pm.

Bring everyone you know!

See you Wednesday.
