WED 18 APR 12: Clara Kennedy & White Lamb (Live) + "Bye Bye Brasil" by Carlos Diegues
Movie Nights are back at the Rabbithole! As Spring wakes slowly but surely, we are inviting you to the colorful world of Brazilian Cinema Novo director Carlos Diegues' road film "Bye Bye Brasil", opened by not one but two musical performances, Brooklyn based cello artist Clara Kennedy and Swedish duo White Lamb.
7:30 pm:
WHITE LAMB
Swedish band White Lamb will be performing in a unique New York arrangement, with vocalist/pianist Anna Hansen, jazz trumpet player Klara Ejeby, and multi-instrumentalist Brian Hill. Their complex, dark and emotional songs echo Swedish melancholy, and will likely swirl you in a world of fairies and monsters, joy and despair.
8 pm:
CLARA KENNEDY
Clara Kennedy graduated with a degree in cello performance from The Juilliard School in 2005. As a multi-instrumentalist composing, recording, performing artist, she has performed in venues such as Bowery Ballroom, Jazz at Lincoln Center, St. Ann's Warehouse, Avery Fisher Hall, Speigeltent and Carnegie Hall. She is also a contributing musician for Ditch Productions, Blind Ear Music and Sheepless.org. Accompanying herself on guitar, she sings (and sometimes screams) a multitude of multilingual poetic folk songs.
8:30 pm:
BYE BYE BRASIL
A nostalgic reflexion on Latin American past and a socio-political commentary on progress in our ever changing globalized world, "Bye Bye Brasil" follows a small traveling sideshow on their way to the Amazon jungle in the hope to find an audience within Brazil's fast yet uneven growing economy. A carnivalesque insight to defining the reality of a new era, one that strives to see optimistic horizons despite the drastic loss of tradition. Directed by Carlos Diegues in 1979, in the mindset of Cinema Novo's 1960's experimentalism, this classic Brazilian road film is one of Diegues' later and most complex work, and has gained the most acclaimed success over the years.
