Although she's been writing since she was 5 she only recently formally studied at the Sackett Street Workshop here in Brooklyn. She is the daughter of Haitian immigrants, the youngest of 7 children, and was born and raised in Brooklyn, where being of Haitian descent was not, and in many ways is still not, cool. Geraldine writes about how her brothers and sisters had rocks thrown at them, how her mother wanted them to be more Europeanized and how even if the inside of the house was broken apart, the cupboards without any food, her mother kept the garden nice with brand new windows and door. Writing has always provided Geraldine with a free and safe place where she is hindered by nothing. She is here to read from here work-in progress entitled, Church Pants and Dress Shoes.

Craig Webster recently graduated from the film/video MFA program at the University of Iowa, where he created a number of short films and videos. These works emphasize that reality is full of dreams and fantasies and little things in-between that make what we think we see or "the external reality" not always so stable or else more curious than we normally give credit.

His films have screened at the Edinburgh, Buenos Aires, Hamburg (Germany), Brooklyn, and SXSW film festivals, among others. He lives in Sunset Park.

Elizabeth J Hill's art emerged from her background in nursing. Her sculptures have been exhibited and reviewed nationally and internationally. She's received numerous awards and grants, and taught in a variety of universities, graduate programs, and community settings. Ms. Hill lived in Scotland several years where her art became community-based. There, she facilitated community members in building giant puppets for pageantry. She experimented with the art of clowning, and created life-size dancing dolls with which she continues to perform. Ultimately, her art drew her back into service as a pediatric nurse, working in home care with medically fragile children. Today, her art and nursing merge as she embarks on creating custom therapeutic dancing dolls for people dealing with loss and grief. In all of her creative work, the focus has been the integration of arts into education, healthcare, and community-building.

Tags:

RABBIT TALES

He went on to obtain his M.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Massachusetts, which he received in 2007. After graduate school, Ben moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he worked as an art handler and continued to make and show work. After two years back in the midwest, Ben’s back in Brooklyn, confused about the nature of existence and how to navigate reality, making work that both asks and answers his desperate questions.

Musician:

Elisa Flynn is a guitarist and songwriter who played in indie rock, punk, and Americana bands for the better part of the last two decades. After taking voice lessons from Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond), she took her stronger voice and headed out with an acoustic guitar and a suitcase full of effects pedals. Her broodingly nuanced vocals shape haunting yet wry ballads into grand guignol. Her most recent EP, 19th Century Songs, was released in 2011 and features tales of shipwrecks, the Civil War, and the Donner Party.

Readers:

The son of a single mother nurse, Eric Nelson came of age in the
concrete jungle of New Jersey, eating iron ore and spitting outgrenades
of Mickey’s Malt. Nelson’s fiction and non-fiction hasappeared in Volume
1 Brooklyn, We'll Never Have Paris, ConstellationMagazine and Zine
World; and his book of short stories, The Silk CitySeries, was released
in 2010 by Knickerbocker Press. Nelson is alsoco-curator of the reading
series, Fireside Follies, in Brooklyn, and avolunteer at ABC No Rio, , and af
ounding member of the 1441 WritersCollective. He is currently trying to
sell his first novel and hasread up and down both Coasts.

Kate Hill Cantrill’s writing has appeared most recently in Mississippi
Review, Quick Fiction, Cake Train, Matchbook, Sleepingfish, The
Believer, Wigleaf, and others. She’s been awarded fellowships from
Yaddo, Jentel, VCCA, and the James A. Michener Fund. She curates the
Rabbit Tales reading series for Rabbit Hole Studios in Dumbo. She can be
reached at <rabbittalesdumbo@gmail.com>.

Artist/Presenter:

Born and raised in New England, Marcie Paper is an artist currently
living and working in Brooklyn. She makes both paintings and
stop-animated films that investigate the track and significance of
short-term memory.Marcie has a background in art therapy and has worked
in the mental health field as both a caregiver and art director for
people with mental illnesses. She received her MFA from the University of
Massachusetts, Amherst in 2006 since then she has attended a number of
residencies, and has shown her work nationally.

http://www.marciepaper.com

Musician:

Steve Espinola is a mostly-piano-playing singer-songwriter, though he
deviates to 19-string electric tennis racket and melodic shortwave radio
on occasion. He lives in Brooklyn, NY and tends to perform in New York
City. He is a home recording enthusiast, instrument maker, flash
animator, sound editor, neighborhood activist, and cat worshiper. He's
been writing, performing and self-releasing his music since the early
1980's. He is constantly humbled by inspired beginners. As a sideline,
he is recording and archiving current musicians live onto 78 rpm
acetates and plastic picnic plates, so that music lovers in future
post-electric generations may play them on hand-cranked Victrolas

Tags:

RABBIT TALES
