JUSTIN WILLIAM LIN
ALTAR 01: Ida (2008)
In a new series, JUSTIN WILLIAM LIN extrapolates religious moments from within a secular narrative. Lin continues to explore the mediated filter which passes between the Witness and the Watched, in art, broadcast or ritual daily life, but whereas previous work challenged assumed roles and points-of-view with a detached viewpoint, the large-format images from ALTAR immerse the viewer with the subjectivity of the devout, albeit for an inaccessible contemporary diety through the gauze of electronic abstraction. The Witness' interaction is compounded by the layers of reflectivity within the image, and the new compositions formed through the viewer's own reflected image.
