THE LAST YEAR: 100 SHOWS IN TWELVE MONTHS

“Rabbithole continues its year of One Night Stands.”

— Rabbithole, February 2016

In its final year, Rabbithole tried a new model for a gallery. Most galleries take a large share of every sale and can show only a handful of artists a year. Rabbithole set out to do the opposite: show as many artists as possible, and let them keep everything they earned. Exhibitions became one-night events, with the goal of mounting 100 shows in twelve months. Artists paid a flat fee of $100 toward setup and staffing, and kept 100% of their sales. The longer-term hope was to become a nonprofit, so that artists would pay nothing at all. Until then, the gallery covered the difference itself.

From September 2015 to August 2016, Rabbithole presented 90 exhibitions, along with 12 performances, screenings, readings and other events. The last show, Elemental You, opened on 11 Aug 2016. Rabbithole left 33 Washington Street on 30 August 2016.
