RABBITHOLE STUDIO, 2006–2012

Before this website, Rabbithole's home on the web was rabbitholestudio.com. It began in 2006 as the site of the photo studio at 33 Washington Street and, for a few years, also carried the gallery's exhibitions. This page gathers what survives of it.

2006: the studio site

The first version, from autumn 2006, was a small brochure for renting the studio: the entrance, the client area and lounge, the shooting area, the stylist and make-up area, a floor plan, general information and rates. Almost all of its text was set in images. The whole site survives and can be browsed as it was: rabbitholestudio.com in 2006 (archived copy).

The 2006 rates were $300 for a full day (8 hours), $200 for a half day (4 hours), and a first-time special of $200 for a full-day rental.

2006–2009: the gallery, in Flash

From 2006 the site also had a gallery section, where exhibitions were presented as Flash movies; its first show was Justin William Lin’s COUPLES, the gallery’s launch show. From mid-2007 the front page itself became a Flash presentation. The main gallery movie was never archived (only its text survives), so the full list of shows from these years is lost; the timeline gathers what is known. One exhibition survives complete: Variation on a Theme, with Pat Berran, Pete Corrie, Brian Hubble and Catherine Vo, 7 August – 1 September 2008.

2010–2011: Studio, Gallery, Submit

By January 2010 the front page offered three choices, STUDIO, GALLERY and SUBMIT, the last for artists applying to shows such as the Winter 2010 Emerging Artists Show. This website was already running by then; its earliest posts date from April 2010.

2011–2012: moving here

In the second half of 2011 the old site was replaced by a notice that sent visitors to this one:

RABBITHOLE has moved to www.rabbitholeprojects.com

The studio's information moved onto this site as Studio Info & Rates (rates effective 1 September 2012), under the RENTALS menu. In September 2012 the studio also started a Tumblr, "An Affordable Professional Photo Studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn", with its rates, floor plan, equipment list and photos of the space.
