Rabbithole is proud to present:
DIN AFARA Solo Exhibition of Dan Sabau
Opening Reception: Oct 2nd
Closing Reception: Oct. 30th 7-10PM
Din Afara translating to "outsider" explores that artist's view as an outsider as well as the artist observing people who are outsiders. The work touches on cultures and people who are unconventional and thought of as being different. Real life as well as fictional characters are created to make the myths and stories of these people. The idea of the "death of the artist" is also a thread which is seen in the series.
Dan Sabau (b. 1977, Romania) works primarily in portraiture in a unique style fusing classical nodes of beauty with an original, colorful, and sentimental stroke of
contemporary influence. His recent oil paintings are influenced by various painters such as John Singer Sargent and Expressionist-pop artists like George Condo. Sabau's paintings explore contemporary ideas of beauty and desire.
Sabau has participated in group shows with such artists as Swoon, Shepard Fairly, and Marilyn Minter. Sabau has participated in national and international art fairs including NADA and Art Markt. Recently, he has been selected to be part of a short film created as a collaboration of The Andy Warhol Foundation and Vice Magazine, directed by Rick Mereti. Some of his collectors include Toby MacGuire, Sebastian Clayton, Irwin and Barbara Weinberg, and Maurizio Ezquanazi. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art, Dan lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
