12 OCT 06: COUPLES by Justin William Lin

Rabbithole Studio presents COUPLES, a new photographic series by Justin William Lin.
Special opening: Thursday, October 12, 7 – 11 pm, 33 Washington Street @ Water Street, Brooklyn
COUPLES is photographer Justin William Lin's first exhibition at Rabbithole. Known for his muted tones and distinctive play on form, Lin's series (in progress) attempts to transcend the conventional representations of sex, the photographer-subject relationship, and intimacy in general. From a fixed position above the bed of two persons in an established relationship, Lin's camera captures the process and form of physical and sexual intimacy from a detached point of view. Through this top-down perspective, the photographs take on an observational quality with the bed filling the frame. The participants are also given control over the camera, via wireless remote, and are therefore left alone to record themselves in action without the presence of a third person. The resulting images have a quiet, neutral rawness, strong and defiant of the popular notions of sex and subject.
COUPLES will be on view until Nov 25, 2006.
